A Typical Day
Open Doors students attend in-person school at the Harbor Learning Center for 2 hours each week. Instead of the regular Monday–Friday schedule (7:45 AM–2:45 PM), students are asked to come for a two-hour study session. They may attend additional time if they are able and wish to do so.
If a student attends all day, they will join the GED-specific class periods for extra help in those subjects:
- Social Studies — 2nd period
- English — 3rd period
- Math — 5th period
- Science — 6th period
Please note: Open Doors students are part of a different program and typically do not attend in-person art, PE, or CTE classes at Harbor Jr./Sr. High. For these classes, assignments will be provided and students may complete their work in the GED room.
What is an IAP?
An IAP (Indicator of Academic Progress) shows a student is making required progress. For HLC students, an IAP can be:
- passing a GED test,
- significantly improving a GED pretest score,
- advancing one iReady grade level, or
- completing 0.25 credit in a class.
Students must earn an IAP every three months to stay enrolled.
